This article reminded me how quickly one site can be in and then out. I wonder if facebook will continue to grow or if it has hit its end.

I think it was a couple years ago that the first kindle came out and i thought to myself wow this is going to be big. Since the kindle came out i only heard of one person purchasing it. But since this new remodel I have seen them all over campus. Although this device is pricey in teh beginign imagine how much money you woudl save on college books alone if you bought them for the kindle. This is just another example of web 2.0 and how products are making life easier for us.

why not another google article.

Google making the web more social

“social networking becomes like air” How do you think social networking will be in the future. I think it being like air is not far off I think that our idea of being connected now will be laughed at in the future.

But relating to my past article. Is the thought of google expanding even further scary? I wonder how another social network will do and what improvements google will make.

and yet another article on google.

I knew that google was growing but it amazes me that in 2005 google was ahead of yahoo in the market share by a mere 3% difference between the two only a year ago and today there is a 42% difference.

Will people become afraid of google becoming a monopoly? Or can google only go down from here?

Personally i am a google user but i use yahoo for news updates. I think im going to go see if yahoo has anything like igoogle andn if not im curious about what they will come out with

This relates to our ims class in web 2.0 and the growth of these major search engines.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/23/technology/internet/23search.html?ref=technology
This article discusses how google has added its trillionth address but this is only a fraction of what the web has to offer. There are answers hidden in the “deep web” and now a “new breed of technologies” will be able to search threw it. Currently search engines rely on crawlers or spiders to gather information. Kosmix has made software that matches the databases with the searches. There is a project called deep peep that hopes to index every database on the web, starting with simple queries. I found that this article related to IMS 201 because we have been discussing how the web is changing and I thought this was a good example.

http://mashable.com/2009/02/16/facebook-tos-privacy/

“In short, all of the content you’ve ever uploaded on Facebook can be used, modified or even sublicensed by Facebook in every possible way – even if you quit the service.”

I can’t read the above sentence without sending a chill down my back. Knowing that facebook could pull up information that you thought was protected by a password is frightening but, knowing that facebook could possibly use it after you quit is outrageous. It is very important to me as a college student who will be looking for a job in a couple of years to keep my records clean. But knowing that facebook is holding pictures that I detagged myself in is scary. I always assumed that it all erased when i deleted it.

“Looking at it globally, millions of people are uploading bits of information on everyone and everything, to a huge online database, and by doing so they’re automatically giving away the rights to use or modify this information to a private corporation. And not only that; they now also waiver the right to ever take it back from it.”

It will be interesting to watch what facebooks databases have on people who run for leadership positions in the future. You better hope that there was never anything illegal on your facebook if you are planning on running for president in 20 years.

I found this article relevant to our class because we have been discussing copyright laws along with different social networking. I have several questions about the copyright laws in facebook and im sure several other students do as well.
